Alicia Allen is a behavioral epidemiologist and the founder of the RENEW Research Team. Her long-term goal is to design, develop, and disseminate effective interventions to prevent and/or treat substance use disorder specifically designed to the unique needs of women. She believes that researchers can and should empower women to avoid and/or achieve successful recovery from substance use disorders by gaining a better understanding of how female-specific factors (such as the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptive use, and pregnancy) impact the use of substances.
